West Fork Student Council at Iowa Student Leadership Conference!

Our student council members visited Iowa State University for the Iowa Student Leadership Conference. Keynote speaker Heather Schultz inspired students to push themselves, embrace challenges, and grow as leaders.

Students also attended breakout sessions tailored to their interests, gaining new ideas and skills to bring back to West Fork. We’re so proud of their leadership and enthusiasm!

West Fork National Honor Society (missing Brooke Rother)

The National Honor Society is preparing to launch the Spirit of West Fork, a program that provides gifts, food, and necessities to families that could use some extra assistance during the holiday season. Applications will be available on November 1st in both school offices for families that would like to participate in this program. If you can, please donate to this program and help spread the joy this holiday season! Donations can be dropped off or mailed to either school office. Please make checks out to "Spirit of West Fork.”

Five of our high school choir members went to the All-State tryouts in Hampton on Saturday! They’ve been putting in the hours since August, and now they got to shine and impress the judges for a shot at the All-State festival. Sadly, none of them made it this year, but it was a fantastic experience for them to learn all about how all-state works. On the bright side, the five students and the rest of the high school choir will get to perform at NIACC for their Honor Choir and All-State concert with students from all over north Iowa on Monday, November 3rd.

Students spent their Friday at the Iowa Specialty Hospital in Clarion. They were walked through different departments of the hospital, giving them all the details for their potential future careers.

Director of the Sheffield Public Library, Morgan Symens, spoke to 8th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade ELA classes about resources, materials, and activities available through public libraries.

Did you know all West Fork students have access to a free research database through the public library? This can be found under “Digital Resources,” on the library’s website: https://www.sheffield.lib.ia.us/. Additionally, signing up for a library card is free!

Morgan also helped kick off a new ELA activity called “First Chapter Friday,” where students hear the first chapter of a book read aloud and note if they’d like to continue reading it or not. Students will explore a wide range of genres through this activity.
