  • Reminder:  No school February 19th/PD Day

  • Seniors please check your email and fill out the google form by Friday, February 16th.  If you have any questions please see Mrs. Shreve.

  • February 20th the Jostens representative will be here during Warhawk time to meet with the freshman.  This will be in the small gym.

  • Iowa Specialty Hospital is hosting a Healthcare Career Day in Clarion on Thursday, March 28 from 9:00 – 12:15. It is open to students in grades 11-12. There will be tours, hands-on activities and a free lunch will be provided. You will be able to explore career opportunities in lab, nursing, radiology, pharmacy and physical/occupational/respiratory therapy. The deadline to register is Friday, March 8th, but spots fill up quickly, so please let Mrs. Lillquist know ASAP if you are interested in attending. Priority will go to those students who did not attend last year. 

  • NIACC is hosting a “Bustin’ Out the Blue” campus visit event on Saturday, February 24 beginning at 12:45 PM. There will be a program and campus tours along with admission to the women’s and men’s basketball games in the afternoon. There are over $4,500 worth of prizes and gift cards for 9-12 grade students and four $1,000 scholarships available for seniors. Lunch is provided and everyone who attends gets a tshirt!   • Spring Soccer/Tennis: Students interested in participating in soccer or tennis this spring at Mason City, please email Mr. Borchardt. Deadline to sign up will be March 1, 2024.

  • Reminder that during post-season tournament games, students will not be able to get in free as you did during the regular season.  You will need to buy tickets off of Bound/IHSAA.

  • Seniors – there is a class meeting, Monday, February 12th during Warhawk time.  This meeting is mandatory if you plan on attending the senior trip.  Please email Claire Tauro or Mrs. Ubben. Also, please fill out the google form sent out by Claire Tauro.  Thanks

  • MercyOne North Iowa School of Radiology is holding a virtual program information session this month. It will be held on Wednesday, February 28th from 2:00 PM – 3:00 PM. MercyOne has opened backup job shadow opportunities for interested students aged 16 and up. There are a few requirements including immunizations. If you are interested in either opportunity, please see Mrs. Lillquist for more information. 
  • The following students still need to return NIACC books to Mrs. Lillquist ASAP: Emersyn Brown, Kaylie Lundt, and Anthany Meyer. Any comp student who hasn’t turned in their copy of “This I Believe” can return that as well. 
  • Sukup Manufacturing Co. is hosting an engineering day on Thursday, February 22nd from 9:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Topics will include thermodynamics, fluids/airflow, 3D printing, 3D drafting software and structural design. Lunch is included and there is an optional tour available in the afternoon. Spots are limited, so please see Mrs. Lillquist ASAP if you are interested in attending. 

  • There are gently used track spikes outside of Shelley’s office if anyone is in need- sizes: 15, 8, 6.5, 6
  • The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) opened on December 31st. If you are a senior or have a child who is a senior planning to attend college in the fall of 2024, it is highly recommended that you complete the FAFSA. There is help available with this process. ICAN (Iowa College Aid Network) is scheduling FAFSA appointments beginning January 3rd.   • Classification of Absences: All absences will be classified in one of two ways: 

#1 Excused Absence – Parent has notified the school and the school approves. No penalty. All work may be made up. These are limited to: personal illness, professional appointments, school activities, funerals, family vacations, emergency work at home with parents, or personal family issues – which must be shared with the principal or counselor. ● Doctor notes should be turned into the office to excuse the absence ● Oversleeping will not be excused. 

#2 Unexcused Absence/Truancy -Absence for all or part of a day without prior knowledge and permission of either the student’s parent or the principal. Credit for work may be withheld. Students may be required to make up missed time or be issued a detention A letter will be sent home after 5, 10, and 15 absences each quarter Meeting with the principal.

  • Just a reminder:  When students are entering or leaving the building, please use the northeast entrance by the office.  Anytime any student enters the building after 8:15am or exits the building before 3:00pm, You must check in or out at the office. 

  • If a student is absent, the parent is asked to notify the office. The school phone system is set up to take messages 
  • 24 hours a day (for calls before and after the office is open). Upon returning to school after being absent from the building, the student is required to check in with the 
  • office. 
  • Before leaving for any reason during the school day, the student is required to check in with the office before leaving the building. If the school has not been notified and the student is absent the office will attempt to notify the parents or guardian.
