Exciting things continue to happen at West Fork as the calendar flips to March. Recently, we ended the winter sports season with a conference champion girls’ basketball team, a district champion boys’ basketball team and two wrestlers who ended their very decorated careers high on the podium at the state wrestling meet. In addition, in the last month, we have had our cheerleaders selected to perform in Des Moines at the state basketball tournament, agriculture students making it to the state contest, and speech students had a great year with three large groups in “ improv “ and one individual event qualifying for state. The 2016-2017 school year is providing us with fabulous things to celebrate and we are hopeful the final quarter brings opportunities for West Fork students to continue to excel to greatness in all areas.
To date, we have missed four days of school and one scheduled professional learning day for our staff due to inclement weather. As a result, school will be in session on May 25 ,26, 30, and 31 and staff will complete their year on June 1.
The month of April is when we focus on our youngest learners and start making plans for the upcoming year. On April 4 at 6:00pm, we have scheduled a Preschool Advisory Meeting. This is an opportunity for parents of preschool aged students to learn more about our preschool programs and provide input. If you are interested in joining our preschool advisory, we ask that you contact the school so we can include you on correspondence for this meeting. The afternoon of April 5 is when we will have our elementary transition day. During this event, students in 4 year-old preschool will spend the afternoon in the kindergarten classroom and students in first grade will travel to the Rockwell Campus to learn about second grade. We ask parents that if you have a child who may not have attended our preschool this year but you are planning on having them begin kindergarten to please contact the school so we can arrange for you to join us for this special afternoon. The Preschool Open House and registration event for the 2017-2018 school year will be held on the evening of Tuesday, April 11 at 6:00pm in the lunchrooms at both campuses This event will be for the parents of 3 yr. preschool, 4 yr. preschool, and PreK-5 students who will be enrolling in one of West Fork’s preschool programs next year. If you have a child entering one of our preschool programs, please contact one of the school offices to get a registration packet. Packets will be available in both school offices beginning March 27 and we ask that you have it completed and ready to turn in on the evening of April 11.
Each year we also reach out to parents who wish to be on our SIAC (School Improvement Advisory Committee). Please contact me prior to Monday, April 3 via phone call or email if you are willing to serve on this committee. We have a meeting scheduled for April 12.
